Sentinel uses separate location, event and organisation records to represent the context of an investigation. Exposures can refer to these records rather than relying entirely on repeated free-text descriptions.
A location represents a place relevant to surveillance or investigation. An event represents an activity or occurrence involving potential exposures. Organisation records provide additional institutional context.
These records support:
- Recording exposures associated with a case or contact.
- Linking investigations to shared places and events.
- Reusing location and event records across investigations.
- Associating an outbreak with a primary location or event.
Address rules, geographic boundaries and automatic jurisdiction assignment are described separately in the Addresses and jurisdiction assignment feature page.
